Upon arriving at the venue for Kenzo’s Fall 2018 show, it was clear that a unique experience awaited. The expansive space was filled with various film sets, including bisected cars, halved dining tables, sliced baths, and professional lighting and camera setups. Initially, we assumed these were for the show’s finale, where models would pose for the audience to take Instagram photos. We were entirely mistaken. Kenzo accomplished the remarkable task of filming and streaming a live-action movie simultaneously with their men’s and women’s runway presentations — an impressive display of multitasking! Creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon noted in the show’s program that the collection celebrated the powerful on-screen women and men who have captivated us with their style and spirit. The whole event felt like watching a live Greg Araki movie. Assistants were visibly running around during the show, adjusting lighting and cameras, while actors and main characters from the film mingled throughout the venue. This dynamic performance highlighted our impatience in filming, sharing, creating, and experiencing. Kenzo appears to be ahead of the curve, presenting both men’s and women’s collections together and immersing the audience in a sensory-rich experience.
