A hyperrealistic mosh-pit painting by New York street artist Dan Witz appeared on Dior Homme’s invitation. It showcases sweaty fans thrashing at hardcore music events. In an interview with The Creators Project last March, Witz revealed, “The greatest single influence on my painting comes from the music I’ve grown up with. The artists I most admire are usually musicians, and many of my best ideas come from their transgressive energy.” This sentiment could have been echoed by Kris Van Assche, the self-professed audiophile and artistic director for Dior Homme. Their creative collaboration was destined and perfectly aligned with Van Assche’s vision. The collection, inspired by Rave, Gabber, Candy Boys, and Witz’s artwork, embodied a true Teenage Kick. The show opened with fitted jackets paired with more voluminous pants, ideal for dancing, and cargo pants with top-stitched detailing. The bucket hats were pure rave culture, featuring the new Dior Homme branding under the name HARDIOR, representing a youthful and hardcore Dior for the next generation. Standout pieces included tailored designs with couture-like flyaway thread embroidery and oversized 90s furs spray-painted in bright turquoise and rust. Our favorite looks were the final five outfits, each displaying an enlarged version of Witz’s mosh pit paintings. These looks perfectly captured the raw energy of the new HARDIOR man.
