After Bouchra Jarrar was appointed as the new artistic director for womenswear and Lucas Ossendrijver marked his tenth year leading the men’s division, it was no wonder that Lanvin’s men’s show drew significant attention today. Jarrar, eager to show her support, sat in the front row with her family. This time, the event took place in the sprawling industrial contemporary-art venue, Palais de Tokyo. The show kicked off with the sounds of German cult industrial band Einstürzende Neubauten’s “Wo Sind Meine Schuhe?” (Where are my shoes?), a fitting tune for the carefree Lanvin boys who might be asking themselves the same question after a wild night out. This vibe of cool, youthful masculinity continues to define Ossendrijver’s menswear vision following Alber Elbaz’s departure late last year. The models embodied the kind of effortlessly stylish guys you’d want to hang out with, sporting free-flowing hair and a carefree approach to fashion. Think vertical stripes mixed with horizontal, shirts unbuttoned to the waist, loose tailoring paired with tees, and whimsically mis-buttoned shirts. The fantastic patterned socks, peeking out from trousers seemingly adorned with marijuana leaves, added a playful touch. Ossendrijver doesn’t make his inspirations obvious, but it’s clear there’s a new Lanvin boy in town—young, effortlessly cool, a music festival enthusiast, and undoubtedly the coolest kid in class.
