If ever there were a time that called for Vivienne Westwood’s eco-political stance, it is now, as nations across the globe face existential crises. For her spring men’s collection, titled “We Are Motherfucker,” the bold designer didn’t stick to a single cohesive theme. Instead, the collection featured a variety of men’s looks, each rich in symbolic meaning. From playing-card and caveman motifs to a mysterious rainforest print adorned not with tropical leaves but with small black circles representing monetary zeros. “We only need a few to save the rainforest,” she noted in the program, “but billions disappear every day in global inflation.” Breaking away from her usual nihilistic tendencies, Westwood ended on an optimistic note: “Will we survive our evolution? Don’t panic.”
